Background
The Twin Blades of Azzinoth are a pair of weapons wielded by Illidan Stormrage. Azzinoth was a doom guard commander whom Illidan slew 10,000 years ago. Illidan looted Azzinoth's twin warglaives and trained to use them himself. He has become exceedingly efficient with the weapons. These twin warglaives are usually connected, but can be disconnected to form separate weapons. They can be reconnected to form a single weapon once more. MoM 172, 178
Trivia
- In Warcraft III, one of the warglaives' handgrips featured a small Pandaren image (the symbol of Samwise Didier). This was used as an inside joke; the warglaives have no connection to Pandaria and their design has been modified for the Burning Crusade.
- In the World of Warcraft MMO, the blades obtainable by players cannot be combined into a single weapon. In the game the Twin Blades of Azzinoth are a pair of legendary swords, a main hand and an off-hand, which can only be used by Warriors and Rogues. However, in the game files, there is a single item of Artifact quality, [The Twin Blades of Azzinoth]. They are indeed usable only by a GM, as their stats are beyond overpowered, and the in-game model is simply a 4-pronged shuriken-like blade.
- The first blade was obtained by Celalia a rogue from Forteand the rogue Furi of Blood Legion on the US server Illidan completed the full set on August 1st, 2007.
- The Twin Warglaives of Azzinoth are the first legendary weapons that are a set. They are also the first legendary weapons of the Burning Crusade expansion that could be used outside an instance (The legendary weapons in the Kael'thas Sunstrider fight of Tempest Keep). The two glaives were also the first legendary items that did not require a quest to acquire or were bound to an instance.
